Reece Terris Vancouver Art Gallery Installation, 2009May 20 2008Ought Apartment is an installation project by Reece Terris, opening January 2009 at the Vancouver Art Gallery (VAG), Vancouver BC. Terris will have constructed a six-storey installation that will rise up through the main atrium of the Vancouver Art Gallery and feature six full-scale apartments stacked one upon the other. Each apartment level will be fully furnished exclusively with original items from the 1950’s through to the present decade and include a kitchen, living room and bathroom. Ought Apartment calls attention to the cyclical nature of fashion within home décor and our total compliance in keeping up-to-date, and is also a critique of the ethical and environmental costs to which we will satisfy the ideal that our home is a refection of ourselves. For a detailed artist statement, please go to Reece Terris's artist page. Release of new images by David BurdenyMay 20 2008David Burdeny continues in his fascination with the light quality and spatial immensity the ocean possesses. It is the reverence for feeling so small in the presences of something so vast where perspective, time and distance become intangible and surreal. The worlds of Greenland and Antarctica contemplate that condition, and through their reductiveness, suggest a formalized landscape we rarely see outside the stillness of photography. As the artist states, “the glory lies not in the act of this removal or reduction, but in the experience of what is left - sublime experience.” The Jennifer Kostuik Gallery is pleased to announce an early release of images for David Burdeny’s upcoming solo exhibit in September 2008. He has one more trip to Greenland before this exhibit is complete. All images on the artist’s web site and the gallery web site are available through the gallery. Due to the size constraints of panoramic photography, the artist has chosen to limit the size and edition number for each image with tiered pricing. Please contact the gallery regarding further interest in this new series and/or acquisition of work.
